It was heartbreaking to read certain parts of this story. I couldn't imagine living Gisela's life and experiencing what she did. Peggy determines to help the Barnetts unravel what might have happened to send their son over the edge. A Long Way Home is a non-fiction book by Indian-Australian businessman Saroo Brierley written together with Larry Buttrose. Long Way Home was a very moving story with some sad moments, as well as joyous ones. When he attempts the unthinkable, his parents check him into the VA hospital. The story richly rewards those who have followed Inspector Gamache and the inhabitants of Three Pines from the beginning of his journey in Still Life, as The Long Way Home serves as an exploration into the lives of Gamache and his friends after the climactic ending of How the Light Gets In (reviewed here ). But the Jimmy Barnett who returns is much different from the Jimmy who left, changed so drastically by his experience as a medic in Europe that he can barely function. Peggy Serrano couldn’t wait for her best friend to come home from the war. The Long Way Home by Canadian author Louise Penny is the tenth (of twelve) Chief Inspector Gamanche novels.
